Week 1 of remote learning January 2021

A huge well done to everyone for this week.
We came in on Monday expecting to be learning as normal - only to be told to close that evening!

So many of our children have embraced remote learning already and have been busy on Google Classroom all week - I am very proud of everyone that has been online learning in the past few days, well done!

We have been playing a maths game, using Smarties as counters.

Here is some amazing sentences
and handwriting from a phonics lesson.

And we have made some lovely front
covers for a new picture book, based on a video clip we have watched this week!

I am looking forward to seeing more of your super work next week!

Have a restful and safe weekend.

Friday, 4 December 2020

On Tuesday it was the 1st December and lots of us were excited about opening our advent calendars, so we learned about the original meaning of advent and why Christians celebrate at this time.

We then worked in teams to create advent wreaths.

We have had an exciting week this week - our elf friends have returned to visit us this year!
On Tuesday we found a door had arrived in the classroom but it was taped up, so we guessed that we were not allowed to touch it and spent some time creating some signs to remind each other to leave the door alone.

Fortunately the tape was gone the next day and the elves have been leaving us little notes and Christmas stories - as well as chocolate coins for children that have been spotted working hard or being extra kind.

They told us the classroom was not very Christmassy, so we have spent a few days creating decorations in our Discovery Time - it looks much better now!

Have a restful weekend - don't forget to choose another challenge for your home learning this week, as well as practicing your spelling words and reading your book.

What an amazing end to the week!

We have had a busy one with all of our learning and it was so lovely to end the week with some fun and to celebrate all the hard work the children have put in this term so far.

Our Superhero day was fantastic - a huge thank you for all the effort that went into the costumes, I think you will agree all the children looked thoroughly 'super'!

We have spent the day doing superhero challenges, such as throwing balls at a target and adding up our superhero scores, as well as playing some great superhero-themed games like 'bingo' .

Have a restful and relaxing weekend!

Friday, 20 November 2020

We have had a busy week in Class 2 this week.

On Tuesday we went for an Autumn senses walk and recorded some of the things that we saw, felt, heard and smelt.

We walked along a sugarbeet field and talked lots about what it was and how it was made into sugar, so Mrs Flynn brought one in on Thursday and we took a closer look - and taste! Some of us liked it, some of us didn't quite so much....

We also collected some leaves to practice our art skills.

First we drew our leaves - then we thought about how we could make our drawings better. We experimented with colours and lines and then had another go - I think you will agree the results are fantastic!

We have been reading Traction Man is Here! by Mini Grey this term and this week we finished the story - we loved it and had a go at acting out different parts in groups while Mrs Flynn re-read it.

Don't forget, our Superhero Day is next Friday (27th) - I am really looking forward to seeing all of your costumes!

 Welcome back!

We hope you are well rested after half term and are ready for a new exciting term!

This week we have been using part-whole models in maths to help us add numbers:

In topic we continued our work on 'significant individuals' by finding out about someone who became well-known for all the wrong reasons - Guy Fawkes!

We learned about the Gunpowder Plot and retold the story using picture prompts, before making some colourful firework pictures using black paper and oil pastels.

Don't forget - all our home learning is online on Google Classroom this year, so do't forget to check for this weeks task!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Friday, 28 February 2020

Welcome back!
I hope you all had a restful half term - we have a busy term ahead and have made a great start this week!

We have been working on different spellings of the /or/ sound this week, learning lots of new spelling patterns. Here are some super sentences using one way of writing this sound.....

Before we started our new book in English we listened to the description below and drew the image that came into our heads - there were some great pictures!

We have only read part of the story so far but have met the main character - Egg Box Dragon - and had a go at predicting and writing the end of the story today! Some of the ideas are absolutely fantastic!

On Tuesday we learned about John McAdam who improved the building of roads using new materials and processes called 'macadamisation' - we went out to have a look at the surfaces of the roads and paths and talked about how smoother roads are much nicer to drive on!
