We enjoyed our trip to the zoo on Tuesday very much! 

We saw lots of different animals and had lots of fun.

I am very proud of all of the children, as they all behaved beautifully and kept themselves and each other safe. WELL DONE!

Back at school we have been focusing on money and now that we are confident recognising coins, we have started to practice making different totals using these coins. 

No home learning this week - please go out and have some fun with your family and enjoy the lovely weather! ☺

We have been thinking about money in maths this week and have been revising which coins we know and how we can write these amounts, remembering the correct symbols too for pounds and pence!

We have also been finishing off our story maps to plan our own version of 'Where the Wild Things are' in preparation for creating our own books in the next 2 weeks.

Well done to all of the children for a fantastic sports day yesterday! We had some exciting (very close!) races and great sportsmanship and lots of fun too.

Home Learning 

Due Thursday 12th July

Your home learning this week is to practice the spelling words sent this term to make sure you are really confident with reading and writing these words.

The words are stuck into your home learning books however please let me know if you would like another copy of the list. You could also check your reading diaries as these have been stuck in weekly all term.

Don't forget our trip to Banham Zoo on Tuesday!

Please could children come in school uniform - trainers can be worn instead of school shoes if they are more comfortable as we will be doing quite a bit of walking. 

School hats will be provided unless children wish to bring their own.

Please remember a packed lunch unless one has been ordered from Mrs Kett and ALL children will need to bring plenty to drink (even if your child is having a school dinner).

This week we have been thinking about what we have learned this year and as well as having a busy week of assessments, Year 1 have been thinking about all of the sounds they know in phonics and the rules we know to help them decide which sound to use in a word.

Here we are sorting 'ou' and 'ow' words .... we worked out that usually if the sound is at the end of the word we use the 'ow' spelling but if it is in the middle or the start then we often use the 'ou' spelling.

We have been continuing to work on our boxes this week to create our own setting from 'Where the Wild Things are' - these are looking absolutely brilliant and are nearly finished and ready to be displayed!

We have started to plan our own versions of the story, changing the characters and how we get to the place where the Wild Things are! 
We are drawing our own story maps and writing key words and sentences to help us plan out our story before we begin to write it up neatly to create a finished 'book' in the next few weeks.

Alex was in the Golden Book this week for consistently putting lots of effort into all of his learning and tackling a very tricky maths problem methodically and thoughtfully which allowed him to find the answer!


Home Learning
Due Thursday 5th July

This week your home learning is a Peter Rabbit 'telling the time' activity to practice what we have been learning in class about how to tell the time.
As always these are stuck into your home learning books but please see me if you need another copy or you are not sure what to do.

We really enjoyed having the Blyth Woods group in today to help us weed and mulch the young trees at the front of the school - thank you, and thank you to all the parents that came along to share this activity with the children.

They also helped us identify some of the different trees around the school grounds by their leaves!

We have started to turn our settings that we designed last week into 3D models using the boxes everyone brought in and have used lots of different materials and techniques to create trees, waterfalls, grass and vines.

The shoe-box settings are all looking fantastic and really unique and we are looking forward to displaying the finished models!

It was really lovely to have all of the Reception children join our class as part of our transition morning on Wednesday - it was nice to get to know them all a little better and we look forward to having them in again in a couple of weeks!

Home Learning

As we have been learning the difference between fiction (made up) and non-fiction ('fact' or information) books this week, your home learning is a piece of non-fiction writing that you need to read and then answer the questions about what you have read.

As always these are stuck in your home learning books but if you need another copy or are not sure what to do please see me before Thursday.

We have been telling the time this week in Class 2 - first to the hour, then to the half hour - Year 2 have also been working on telling the time to the nearest 15 minutes.

We will be continuing to practice next week as it is quite tricky!

In science we have been thinking about animals and their habitats and we watched a video showing lots of different areas of a jungle. We then discussed what animals we saw, where we thought they lived and what other animals might live there and wrote a list.

We then talked about how it looked like the setting from our story 'Where the Wild Things are' and so we have started to design our own version of the setting, using what we know from the story and what we saw and learned from the video in our Science lesson.

The designs are fantastic - some really careful work went into these and we even wrote labels for our picture, using adjectives to describe what each part might be like.

Welcome back!
We hope you had a restful half term break.

We have been continuing our work on 'Where the Wild Things are' and this week have been thinking about the Wild Things. We have written some fantastic descriptive sentences about the Wild Things from the story....

....and now we have chosen some different animals and have created our own Wild Things!

 In Maths we have begun to think about time and have been working hard to learn the names and order of days of the week and months of the year.

We have also thought about using language connected with time - Wednesday is BEFORE Thursday, Sunday is AFTER Saturday - and about activities and routines we have at different times of the day - we have tea AND THEN go to bed.



Well done to Mary for being in the Golden Book this week for consistently putting lots of effort and enthusiasm into all of her learning.

Year 1 - This week you have a phoneme spotter activity - you will need to spot all of the different 'ay' sounds in the story ( ay / ai / a_e / eigh) and highlight / colour or underline them. 

Year 2 - You have a calculation activity - you need to work out the answers to each problem and then use the answers to help you 'crack the code'! Good luck!
