Sunday 29 April 2018

As our topic for this term is 'Where The Wild Things Are', this week we have been reading the story and are starting to learn it, using actions and creating story maps to help us remember what happens and in what order. This will help us when we retell the story over the next few weeks!

... a forest grew - and grew - and grew ...
"Now Stop!" Max said and sent the Wild Things to bed with no supper.

In Maths we have been thinking about division this week - how we can share objects into equal groups. I was so impressed with how hard everyone worked this week and Year 1 were even challenging themselves to write the division number sentences that Year 2 were doing!

We have also been trying to keep outside as much as possible and have been enjoying some time in our outdoor area this week (when it has not been raining!).

Some children decided to practice writing numbers with chalk and then came up with their own version of hopscotch! The mud kitchen was also in operation, complete with a very yummy menu thanks to Sophie and Lily.

Home Learning
Due Thursday 3rd May

This week your home learning task is a division challenge, to practice what you have learned this week. This is stuck into your home learning books. Don't forget to ask before Thursday if you need some help with this.

Don't forget to practice this weeks spelling words too!

Friday 20 April 2018

It has been great to have everyone back after a nice Easter break and to see the children enjoying all of the new play equipment in the sunshine!

We have been making the most of the lovely weather by being outside as much as possible - even in our maths lessons!

This week we have been practising making equal groups and arrays to help us find the answer to multiplication word problems.

We went outside onto the playground and practised making these with some of our PE equipment and even used ourselves to prove that 5 x 5 is 25 !

Year 1 has some extra practice and used these skills to work out the answers to more problems and then start to record these .....

.... Year 2 then taught us how to write addition AND multiplication number sentences!

We have also begun work on our new topic - details are still a bit of a secret but the children are already producing some fantastic thoughts and ideas in class so I am sure we will all really enjoy the summer term!
It has been lovely to see the effort some children are putting into their writing this term already and am looking forward to more super English work in the coming weeks, which will be linked to our topic.

Home Learning
Due Thursday 26th April

This week you have a choice of an English or Maths challenge for your home learning - these are slightly different for Year 1 and Year 2 but are stuck into your home learning books.
Please see me before Thursday if you need more details of these or are not sure what to do.

Have a lovely weekend!
