We have been making signs this week to keep people out of room(s) where we do not what them to go.
We talked about how to make our signs 'bossy' by using capital letters or big letters and an exclamation mark !
We also decided our signs needed to be clear and bright, to help people read them easily - and have a picture or colourful design.
We then all made signs for our bedroom doors...

In maths we have been concentrating on counting confidently, firstly to 50 but today we managed to count to 100 without looking at a 100-square! WOW!

Year 2s have been making 'equal groups' to practice multiplying numbers using repeated addition - here is some careful thinking by Jack and Samuel to prove the calculation

4 x 5 = 20
4 groups of 5      or       4 5's       or       5 + 5 + 5 + 5  )

Thank you to the parents and carers that joined us for the e-safety share this morning - we enjoyed having you all in the classroom working with us!

Dotty was in the Golden Book this week for always putting 100% into everything she does - especially this week when she had a nasty fall and hurt herself but still carried on trying her best and doing so with a smile!

Due Thursday 1st February 2018

Our topic this term is ‘Wonderful Water’ so for your home learning this week I would like you to think about where we see water around us and what things we might use it for.

Write or draw your ideas, or ask a grown-up to help you print out some pictures if you like.
You could think about where or how water is used in your house or where you might see it in nature, or in other places around the world.

Following on from our work on 2D shapes last week, we have been looking at 3D shapes this week in maths.

We have been learning the names of some 3D shapes and went for a walk around school to see which 'real-life' objects we could find.......

Can you name the 3D shapes?

To fit in with our topic, we have discussed under-sea worlds this week and have practised writing lists of our ideas before planning and creating our own map of the lake in our story: 'The Lonely Sea Monster'.

Here are some of our lists of ideas and initial plans - and then the finished neat map, including a key, underneath!

Home Learning
Due Thursday 25th January

Over the past 2 weeks we have been thinking about 2D and 3D shapes in Maths.

Your home learning task this week is to go on a hunt for some 2D and 3D shapes, either at home or whilst out and about!

Please either take photographs, draw or make a list of what you find and where you found it.

Year 2 – how can you sort some of the shapes into groups and label each group?
HINT – think about the properties of the shapes - for example – you could put all the 3D shapes with a curved face together!

In English this term we will be thinking about 'information texts' - can you think of some ways we can learn new things or get more information about something?

We have begun by looking at labels and signs - here are some examples from around the school:

We have also read some facts about sea creatures and labelled some drawings and have created some lovely clear signs to help give directions for a lost sea monster!

Our maths this week has been focusing on 2D ('flat') shapes and their properties.
Can you remember the names of the shapes we have been using?
How many sides (edges) and corners (vertices) they each have?
Can you talk about the length of each side?

Here we are playing a game where we need to match the shape to it's name - but all the cards are face down so we also need to use our memory to remember where each one is!

We have had a great start to our new topic - 'Wonderful Water' and have come up with some really interesting questions we would like to find out the answers to, such as

"How does the water get in the taps?"
and
"How do the sun and the rain make a rainbow?"

In the Golden Book this week were Horace and Logan - well done!
Horace has been a super-star in the classroom already this term, always trying his best with his learning and he always checks with Mrs Flynn to see if she needs any help with classroom jobs.
Logan has had a super 'can-do' attitude towards his learning and school this week and is always looking to challenge himself - a great example of 'Growth Mindset' !

Due Thursday 18th January 2018

This week we have been thinking about signs and labels in English.
Your home learning task this week is to go on a hunt for some different signs and labels, either at home or whilst out and about!

Please either take photographs, draw or make a list of what you find and where you found it - we would love to be able to put some interesting examples up in the classroom with the signs and labels we found in school!
