What a busy last week of term we have had!

We began the week with a 'Big Write' retelling the story of 'Farmer Duck' that we have been working on for the past few weeks - I was amazed at how much everybody's writing has come on over the term, well done!

To help Farmer Duck out with his jobs for the lazy farmer, on Tuesday we helped him make some Easter biscuits.

We had to put the recipe in the right order and then spotted all the 'bossy' verbs that told us what to do, like 'mix' and 'roll'

We then followed the recipe and baked and decorated the biscuits too!

Finally we used all the bossy verbs we had thought of this week, along with the photos we took as we baked, to help us rewrite the recipe for ourselves.

We have also been preparing for Easter this week by creating Easter 'collage' cards which were very unique and colourful!

Today we also had our Easter bonnet parade, everyone looked fantastic in their creations and it was lovely to see the different designs and all the effort that was put in to each one.

After a short walk to the common we had great fun in our annual egg rolling competition too!

I hope you all have a lovely break and return on Monday 16th April ready for the Summer term!

Happy Easter everyone!

Friday 16 March 2018

Thank you to all of the parents and carers that joined us for our 'Great British Spring Clean' on Tuesday afternoon - we managed to find quite a lot of litter hidden around the playground and school field!

We have been thinking about 'Floating and Sinking' as part of our topic work on Water - we talked about what each work meant and then predicted which objects would sink and float before testing them.

We also discussed how boats stayed afloat and had a go at making our own boat shapes from Plasticine!

Whilst continuing with our work on Farmer Duck this week in English we have been working on how to make our sentences more exciting and using some different 'time words' to start our sentences, to help us think about the order of events.
We ordered the pictures and then wrote a sentence or two about each one, trying to use some of our new words, like first, next, after that and finally. Year 2 challenged themselves and used some even more exciting sentence starters, such as while, just as and when.

Due Thursday 22nd March

This week we have been using ‘time words’ in our English lessons to help us remember the order of things that happen and to make our sentences more exciting!
For your home learning I would like you to tell me about something you did this weekend using some of the time words we have been learning.

Good (Year 1) -      First… Next… Then… After that…  Lastly…

Better (Year 2) -     When…    After that… / After a while…  Just as…   While…     Finally…

Don’t forget, your sentences should also have capital letters and full stops.

We have had a fantastic week after the excitement of the snow last week with our slightly delayed 'Eco Week'.

We have been using the book 'One Plastic Bag' in our English and Science/Topic lessons all week and the children have really embraced exploring a story from another culture.

We have acted out the story and re-ordered some muddled up pictures to help us think about what happens when and thought of some terrific adjectives to make our speaking and writing much more interesting. We finished the week with a 'Big Write' retelling of the story and these look brilliant - I am looking forward to reading them over the weekend!

We have also thought about different materials and created some lovely 'Recycling' posters too.

Thank you to everyone who donated lots of plastic for our recycling art afternoon today!
The children chose what they would like to do and we are so impressed with what they managed to create from all the 'rubbish' we were given.

Milk bottle Elmers and masks

Yogurt pot flowers

Bottle top

Plastic bag collage

ECO WEEK HOME LEARNING

For your home learning this week I would like you to choose an activity from the grid below to complete.

Find something in your house which is eco friendly. It could be something that helps the environment or something we use to reuse or recycle something we might throw away as rubbish.

Draw and explain what it is used for.

Materials Hunt!
In your house, find:
5 things made from wood
5 things made from glass
5 things made from metal

Draw a small picture of each object.

Make a poster explaining how we can be more eco-friendly.
Don’t forget posters need to be bright, colourful and clear!

Get Creative!
Make something old into something new – reuse or recycle something you no longer need into something else!

Don't forget our Great British Spring Clean on Tuesday 13th March

Also, please return any parents evening slips by Wednesday 14th March so we can try to allocate a time that suits you.

Thursday 1 March 2018

** We hope you are managing to stay safe **

** and warm in this freezing weather! **

As we have not been able to get into school for a few days now, here are some activities you might like to have a go at!

Year 1 and 2:

How many adjectives can you think of to describe the snow? See if you can write some down.
Why not have a competition with someone you are spending the day with and see who can think of the most - or the most interesting!
Year 2 - can you use them in some expanded noun phrases - remember, this is 2 or more adjectives and uses a comma and the word 'and' to join them together.

Year 1 -

Can you make these numbers using objects you find around the house?
For example, to make the number 5, I might find 5 cups.
Then can you write down the numbers and how many tens and ones are in each one? You could have an adult give you some other numbers too if you want more of a challenge!

Year 2 -

What are the other multiplication facts we know for each one? Can you write them down?
For example - if we know 2 x 3 = 6 we also know 3 x 2 = 6 !

If you fancy a challenge, have an adult give you some more multiplication calculations and see if you can draw arrays to find the answers.
