It has been such a busy week in Class 2 this week!

On Monday we talked about Remembrance Day and did our 2 minutes silence at 11am to give thanks and remember the brave soldiers who fought in the war. We saw lots of the veterans on the TV coverage had medals so we made our own medals too!

We went out for an autumn walk too and had to spot signs of autumn in our pairs and tick them off once we found them.

We have been working hard on our addition ( + ) skills and have been using different resources to help us. Year 2 even had a go at setting out their addition calculations in columns using base 10!

On Friday we went for a walk to Vicarage Grove and explored the woodland there for ideas for our own enchanted creatures that we will be working on next week! We had a great time and found lots of interesting things to help us start to imagine what might be living in the woodlands - and we managed to avoid the rain too!

We would like to thank all that came along to our assembly on Wednesday - I think you will agree the children did a super job from start to finish!
WELL DONE CLASS 2!

In phonics we have been revising sounds we already know and then learning new ways to write the sound. We have also been practising our handwriting and writing in sentences with capital letters and full stops.

Year 2 have been working hard in maths finding addition and subtraction facts and this week we have extended this to numbers to 100 - we have used lots of resources to show different calculations and have used what we know to prove our answers...
 50 + 50 = 100        5 tens and 5 tens equals is the same as 10 tens.

We have even had a go at 'changing' the value of our resources - we made a 'one' unit from our base 10 equipment worth 10 - then had a go with other resources such as a tens frame and even numicon! Very tricky maths but lots of children really understood the idea - AMAZING!

80 + 20 = 100     each cube is worth 10 so 8 tens and 2 tens is the same as 10 tens)
40 + 60 = 100    4 tens and 6 tens is the same as 10 tens
2 tens and 8 tens is 10 tens - so 20 + 80 = 100

Thea was in the Golden Book this week for working so hard on her independent writing and making sure to always keep trying! Well done!
