Friday 22 April 2016

After more clues arrived in our classroom this week, we worked out that our next topic would be ‘The Lorax’ by Dr. Seuss! We have started to watch part of the film already.
We celebrated the Queens 90th birthday on Thursday by creating our own crowns and having our own mini-party – everyone looked fantastic!

In our English lessons we have been thinking about retelling stories from the point of view of another person using the story ‘Farmer Duck’. We have also been practising writing questions, using the correct punctuation. We have started to think about how we can use conjunctions (‘joining words’) to make our writing even better.

We have been telling the time in Maths this week – working on recognising o’clock and half-past times (Yr1) and quarter past and quarter to (Y2) on both digital and analogue clocks. We have also completed some active challenges to see what we can do in 60 seconds!
How many clocks can you find over the weekend? What times do they show?

Congratulations to Joshua for being in the Golden Book this week for some great work in English lessons!

A BIG WELL DONE to the following children who all worked really hard this week and got full marks in their spelling challenge – Oliver, Whitney, Ellie, Francesca, Saskia, Poppy, Harley, Harry, Alfie L, Joseph and Lilly

Homework – Due Thursday 28th April.

Homework this week is some practice using conjunctions, and a Maths game ‘Bubble Burst’ to be completed on Abacus ActiveLearn .

I am pleased to hear lots of children have had fun trying out the games at home this week and that everyone has been able to log on, as we had no-one need to come along to the drop-in sessions this week.
I have allocated another Maths game ‘Bubble Burst’ as part of the homework for this week – please pop a note in your child’s reading journal if they do not have access to a computer or the internet at home and we will arrange use of a school computer before next Thursday.

Spellings have also been given as usual.

Next week….

We will continue our work on retelling stories next week using Farmer Duck. We will also be thinking about using exclamation marks in our writing.
In Maths we will be thinking about place value of 2 digit numbers and rounding to the nearest 10.
We will also be continuing our topic work about ‘The Lorax’ and combining what we have watched with our English work to help us reflect on and retell the story!
